Greyshack Films is a development and production company committed to creative, thought-provoking, energetic new cinema designed within a low-budget model. Company president Mike S. Ryan is a veteran member of the independent film community who started out in the industry’s 1990’s heyday with films like Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm and Todd Haynes’ Far From Heaven. As a producer, he has been responsible for a remarkable group of films in the last five years, most made for under $3 million.

For the independent film industry to sustain itself, each film has to be designed with a fiscal return in mind. Above all, we have to make great films.

The development process between a producer and director exists to turn great ideas into great films. The Hollywood development process should work this way, but it is almost always brought down by the immense overhead needs of the studios and high cost of name-brand talent.

Greyshack’s track record of films – which have won every top honor in the industry – has proven our ability to assess a project and design it for the right budget, while keeping artistic integrity alive as the endeavor’s ultimate goal.

DEVELOPMENT: script analysis, casting strategies, budgeting, scheduling.

PRODUCTION: creating a production strategy including state tax incentive options, obtaining cast and star talent attachments, hiring of key creative department heads, through hands-on set up of location scouts, production office and below-the-line crew.

POST-PRODUCTION & DISTRIBUTION: designing editorial and completion processes, festival strategy, theatrical and ancillary release guidance.
